Blockchain technology has revolutionized many sectors since its inception. We often talk about its impact on the traditional finance industry and the changes it’s bringing about in the art field. But there is one topic that is not discussed much: What impact can blockchain have on inclusiveness? How can this revolution be put at the service of the common good and the integration of different societies? This is what we will discuss in “Blockchain and Inclusion.” For this first series, we will focus on the connection between new technologies and the LGBTQ+ community, through a series of interviews with big names in the blockchain world. Today we will focus on reviews Written by Joe DiPasquale, Lee John and Mike Musanti. Starting !
Joe DiPasquale from BitBull Capital and StartOut:
Joe is the CEO of BitBull Capital, which operates cryptocurrency hedge funds, and the co-founder of StartOut, a non-profit organization dedicated to building business leaders by nurturing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and gay people.
Technology has been of paramount importance to the LGBTQ+ community. Already in our formative years, many are using technology and social platforms to find other LGBTQ+ people, even before they’ve made it. Out Or talk about it to those around them. It is often the first search people do online and in forums.
LGBTQ+ youth make up more than 40% of homeless youth in America. Therefore, the importance of technological platforms in enhancing communication, whether through the web or even through applications and mobile phones accessible to disadvantaged youth, cannot be overemphasized.
The impact of technology in health is also very important, whether it is the access of drugs against HIV (from those that treat to those that prevent) or the increased transfer of knowledge about specific LGBTQ+ health issues among clinicians, who are generally familiar with medicine Heterogeneous only.
With blockchain, many of the leading LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs have sought ways to support the community through commerce, whether using LGBT tokens or dedicated chambers of commerce. One of the important things I always hear from those working in AI and blockchain is the diversity of this sector compared to other industries. The technological focus and merit in our industry give way to open-minded and forward-thinking people.
With NFTs, artists have the ability to create unique digital artwork and own these rights. Due to its digital nature, this type of art can be very specific but enjoyed by a large number of people. I was recently talking to a friend about an international digital artist who liked his art because it brought up the things they both went through as LGBTQ+ people. However, they would not necessarily have made any connection if they were limited to the physical realm of art.
Technology has really helped me in my own journey as a LGBTQ+ person and will definitely continue to see the new developments in health, finance, security and representation that we see emerge with the latest developments.
Lee Jun from Ontology:
Li is the founder of Ontology, a self-governing identifier, decentralized digital identifier, and data blockchain.
Unfortunately, current centralized systems and technology no longer provide the necessary security to ensure that users are protected from malicious actors. Every day we hear about new data leaks and new security breaches. For LGBTQ+ people who live in certain countries, leaking personal information about their digital identity can be a real risk, and in some cases, become a matter of life or death.
People should have the right to control how their identity is located in the digital realm. Blockchain-based decentralized identity protocols can put users back in control of what they share online and with whom. Amid the current regulatory debates that often criticize the anonymity that blockchain offers, it is important to note that some minorities cannot afford the luxury of privacy or civil liberties. This makes anonymity not only necessary for them, but also one of the great advantages of blockchain technology.
Mike Musanti from Eccentric Images:
Mike is the co-founder of Decentralized Pictures, a non-profit organization and blockchain-based filmmaking platform.
The film industry has always been very aloof and somewhat closed to new and innovative voices in cinema, art and culture. Blockchain technology has the potential to break down silos in the industry by democratizing the process of nurturing talent and content, enabling greater amalgamation of voices that speak through media and films. The mission of our decentralized platform is to provide access to independent and underrepresented talent hoping to break into the film industry. This, by enhancing the content curation process by which users around the world vote for the most deserving projects.
Unfortunately, only a small percentage of current filmmakers are part of the LGBTQ+ community, despite the many talented and enthusiastic members. These people often face inherent biases, which can be eliminated using blockchain technology for a fair voting process.
We’ve come to the end of this fourth part of our “Blockchain & inclusivity: Can New Technologies Help the LGBTQ+ Community?” More talks from the actors and actresses on the blockchain are waiting for you in the coming weeks, so stay tuned and see you next week!
