(ORANGE CI) – On June 10, 2022, during a press conference at Orange Village, the headquarters of Orange Côte d’Ivoire, presented by Didier Kla, Orange’s Director of Business and Broadband Orange Côte d’Ivoire and Ehmann Rulli, Deputy Director of Planning and Engineering, the group announced that it would transform All of its infrastructure to fiber and 4G fixed as of December 31, 2022.
The number of internet users has steadily increased across the African continent in recent years. Between 2011 and 2018, its rate of use doubled from 13.5% to 28%. In the context of the growing needs for a high-quality connection, and in order to meet new uses, Orange Côte d’Ivoire, the committed multi-service operator, has been investing and actively deploying fiber optics throughout the country since 2016.
Today, after connecting the entire region, Orange Côte d’Ivoire announced that it wants to accelerate the transition of its infrastructure that still uses copper (analog fixed telephone, fax, dedicated lines, leased lines and ADSL) to fiber and fixed 4G from December 31, 2022. Effective December 31, 2022 -All ADSL services will be stopped. Therefore, the operator requires business customers and the general public who make use of fixed voice and Internet services to contact customer hotspots to migrate their subscriptions free of charge. The closure of ADSL services in 2023 will be followed by a complete shutdown of all copper services and a final withdrawal of the latter in 2024
This announcement comes within the framework of the bloc’s ambition to contribute to research, development, innovation and investment in future technologies, while respecting the environment and meeting the needs of the population. As part of this transition, basic equipment will be provided free of charge to customers, and users residing in non-fiber regions will be able to access fixed 4G offerings at the best rates.
In addition, during the event, Orange Côte d’Ivoire received the nPerf Awards, which distinguish operators around the world who offer the best quality for fixed and mobile networks. Thus, Orange Côte d’Ivoire was recognized as the most efficient operator of mobile and fixed internet during 2021.
